A brace from Matt Meanwell helped Lincoln’s 2nd XV to a 29-22 victory over Matlock, despite a spirited display from the visitors’ 13-men.
Matlock could only field 14-men but tries from Alex Powell, Jonathan Sharp and Nick Combes put them19-5 ahead going in at the break, with Lincoln’s only score coming from Jake Williams.
Tries from Meanwell and Pete Webster put Lincoln in front before Goodall levelled matters with a penalty.But Lincoln had the final say with Ben Cummings running in for a try.
Second XV captain Aaron Bird said:
“Matlock played with heart and soul even though they had less men, everything that rugby is about.
“We weren’t at our best, but we still pulled off a victory to carry our unbeaten record on.”
It took just one minute for Matlock to open the scoring with Powell going over for a try in the corner, which Goodall converted.
Despite losing a player to injury and having to play the remainder of the game with 13-men, Matlock soon increased their lead with Sharp running in for a try, which Goodall converted.
Lincoln reduced the deficit when Adam Whitwell burst down the wing before confusing the defence with a dummy and offloading to Williams to run in for a try.
Matlock continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when a big drive sent Combes over for a try.
Lincoln reduced the deficit within a minute of the restart with substitute Webster making an immediate impact to crash over for a try after good running from Whitwell.Webster almost scored again minutes later but was tackled just short of the line.
Meanwell scored a superb individual try running from just inside his own half before going over for a try, which Sam Cheffins converted.
The winger burst through the Matlock defence again minutes later for his second try before Goodall made it all square with a penalty.
Matlock refused to give up but the Red & Greens maintained their 100% home record after an excellent offload from Jake Cook released Cummings to run in for a try which he also converted.

Lincoln’s Second XV retained their position at the top of the Pennant League with a hard fought 10-8 victory against Paviors 2nds.
Coach Spud Murphy admitted it wasn’t Lincoln’s best performance but was quick to praise the efforts of his side.
“What Lincoln produced on Saturday afternoon at Burnt Stump was 100% effort,” said Murphy.
“Both teams were equally matched, with Paviors enjoying slightly more possession and territorial advantage.”
“What Lincoln lacked in these two departments they more than made up for in grit and determination.The tackling and commitment of the Lincoln team was faultless.”
“Lincoln have a young and talented squad, who are constantly improving, and will soon be a force to be reckoned with.”
The hosts started brightly and were almost rewarded when winger Eddie Lee burst forward, but the Lincoln defence reacted well to tackle him into touch.
Lincoln had a chance to move in front moments later, but Adam Whitwell’s penalty attempt fell short.
A dropped ball gifted possession back to Lincoln, but winger Matt Meanwell was tackled metres short of the line.
Paviors continued to push forward but the Lincoln defence continued to keep them out. Lincoln held the hosts up over the line, before tackling Zack Flanders just one metre short.
But the hosts broke the deadlock on 25 minutes as George Billam slotted over a drop goal.
Paviors almost increased their lead when Lee again raced clear only to be denied by an excellent tackle from Adrian Howard.
Adam Whitwell converted a penalty to level the scores within three minutes of the restart, before the visitors had two lucky escapes in as many minutes to keep the scores at 3-3.
Lincoln gifted possession to the hosts near the try line but fortunately for the visitors, Paviors dropped the ball over the line.The hosts then crossed the try line, but Lincoln’s strong defence forced Paviors into touch before the ball was grounded.
Lincoln’s defence was soon called into action again as Lee burst clear towards the corner, but Meanwell denied him with a superb last ditch tackle on the line.
Lincoln started to pile on the pressure and almost moved in front only for flanker Harry Cowles to be held up over the line.
But there was no mistake next time around as a big Lincoln drive put Ed Dalgleish over for a try, which Whitwell converted.
Paviors put pressure on the Lincoln defence late on but excellent tackles from Whitwell and hooker Jake Cook kept them out.
But the hosts hit back in the final minute with Andy Ryland going over for a try in the corner.The conversion fell short as Paviors missed the chance to draw level.
Paviors refused to give up as they pushed forward with the last play of the game.A good burst forward by Lee was met by a great tackle from Cook before Captain Nick Middleton kicked the ball into touch to ensure that Lincoln came out on top.
